Brad and Carol's MND story.

Brad was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in March 2025. This is their story.

In partnership withMND NSW

Brad Lynch was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in March 2025, at age 52. It came after 15 months of tests, appointments and waiting rooms. By then, his body had already started to change. Carol, his wife and primary carer, had been beside him through every scan and specialist visit.

They met in high school. Brad was the cheeky one, always moving, always up for something. A panel beater by trade, he spent decades working with his hands. Weekends were for the water, the bush, or whatever adventure he could rope Carol into. That energy is still there. The body just stopped keeping up.

The disease moved fast. Over 100 falls in the first year. Home modifications, equipment changes, daily routines rebuilt from scratch. The house they raised their family in became a different kind of space, one measured in grab rails and turning circles.

Abound's support workers became part of their week early on. Not rotating strangers with clipboards, but the same faces, the same people who know how Brad likes his morning set up and when Carol needs a break. The kind of support that doesn't require explaining everything from the start each time.

Brad and Carol's story was featured by MND NSW in their May 2026 community spotlight, recognising the way their family has faced the diagnosis with honesty and humour. The video above was produced alongside MND NSW to share their experience with other families navigating similar paths.

Don't give up. Keep fighting. Try and have fun along the way.
